A new spring is upon us and the Buffalo Sabres are ambling their way to a sixth straight season without a playoff appearance. The Lake Erie Swords last qualified for the postseason in 2011. Much has changed since that Game 7 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Perhaps we’ve officially lost it, but we here at The Goose’s Roost think we should talk about it. Much like the DroughtCast covering the Buffalo Bills 17-year (and counting!) playoff drought, we’re going to record a podcast for every game the Sabres have played since they last made the playoffs.
Really. We mean it.
In case you forgot how we got here, this first episode covers Terry Pegula’s purchase of the team during the 2010-11 season, and the exciting offseason that brought Ville Leino, Christian Ehrhoff and Robyn Regehr into the fold.
Looking back into the not-so-distant past should help give us some perspective on how far (or perhaps near) the Sabres have come since the early days of the Pegula era and maybe offer us a chance to look back at some truly terrible hockey. Oh, there will be some guys.
One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be interesting.
