If I’m not mistaken, that was the “Mini” Moog šŸ™‚

  2. I think Vanek already is one of the best players in the NHL. If you adjust his point totals for icetime and games played (goals, assists and points per sixty minutes) he places 5th in the NHL in goals per sixty minutes, and 17th in the NHL in points per 60 minutes since the lockout.

The obvious issue is that Vanek plays significantly less icetime than other superstars in the league. Vanek started picking his game up when Lindy started giving him extra shifts about ten games into the season. That’s always been my beef with Vanek, this is a guy that needs to be playing 20+ minutes a game which is something he’s never done in his career. (I don’t know if this is conditioning, or Lindy, or what.) If Vanek plays 20 minutes a game, he’s a 50 goal scorer.

The other thing is I don’t think he’s ever had linemates that are anywhere near his talent. Derek Roy is good, but he’s not enough. They need someone to complete them. It doesn’t have to be a superstar, or a sniper, just someone who has the right combination of skill, and heart, and hustle to be able to tie that line together. I feel like Vanek and Roy are constantly playing 2 on 3 whenever they’re on the ice, regardless of who they’re paired with (maybe 2.5 on 3 with Ennis).

Crap, I should totally do an entry on this myself.
