Some people really like Christmas music. I assume those are the target audience for Top 40 FM radio stations that switch over to Christmas music two weeks before Thanksgiving.
I am not one of those people.
Howver, it started snowing one night a few days ago and I put on a song about Christmas lights. Well, kind of. The song is actually about being depressed as hell, the topic of many Ryan Adams’ songs when he was doing lots of drugs.
But the song was a pretty good choice, and that got me thinking: What’s the best “Christmas song” that’s actually not about Christmas at all?
Now I don’t mean any of those songs they play on radio stations during the holidays. I mean the songs only you know, that makes sense to play around Christmas but work anyway. Maybe one line mentions Christmas or it just reminds you for some reason.
Either way, I want to hear about it. Let’s make a list of these songs and play that music for the next few weeks, maybe until Dec. 24 or a time when it feels right to listen to holiday tunes.
Like, you know, on a holiday.
