There is a lot going on downtown today. The Sabres open the Stanley Cup Playoffs at home against Boston, and a Party in the Plaza will serve as pregame festivities. But if you ask me, I’d hit up Dunn Tire Park before you head to the Plaza for a drink.
After a 7-2 win in their home opener yesterday, Buffalo gets the chance to put their new lineup to the test against a genuine major league pitcher. Boston Red Sox righty Daisuke Matsuzaka will be making a rehab start with the Pawtucket Red Sox at Coca Cola Field at 4 p.m. You’d expect him to throw just around 90 pitches or so, which means you can stop by for the show and get out well before puck drop down the street.
Since Pawtucket is Boson’s AAA affiliate, the Bisons are promoting a “Beat Boston x2” day, with $2 off game tickets for Thursday. That means every seat in the house is under ten bucks.
Also, the Bisons will offer 2-for-1 specials on hot dogs, beer, and pop. That’s not a bad way to get ready for some hockey, especially with a big name starting for the other side.
There’s going to be a TON of people downtown tomorrow afternoon, so I’d get there and parked as soon as possible. From the look of things yesterday and on Saturday night, a few new (well, unfamiliar to me) parking spots have opened up on the other side of the Aud footprint, and just in time.
If you have the time to get down here early, I’d stop by the ballpark for a bit. I’ll be there.
