I couldn’t do it.
Three nights in a row I tried to muster up the courage to watch six straight hours of losing hockey. It would be an interesting experiment in blogging, I thought, one worth taking the time and losing the sleep over. But I pushed it off and kept pushing it off until it was too late or I was too tired to get through it.
I have a problem with procrastination. In a way, the only reason this blog exists is because of that problem. So when I push something off in The Roost it’s for one of two reasons: 1) I don’t know how people will react or 2) Deep down I don’t really want to do it.
It’s got to be that second one, right? As much as I want to get cynical about this team and panic all over the place, I know in a few days a 2,000 word post about hockey games people have already watched will seem petty and stupid. Heck, I just reread that sentence and I already think it is.
So here’s the deal: the Sabres play tonight, and I’m going. Today I’m going to spend every second of spare time I find getting myself excited for tonight’s game. I’m not going to look back at the last three hockey games, but forward to the next three before things go dark for a while.
Because deep down, I’m excited for what’s ahead. The Olympic break will be equally necessary and terribly long, but it will be fun to watch. The trade deadline lurks just after that, and before you know it we will be talking spring hockey. This is supposed to be fun, and Stress Buffaloes aren’t supposed to die at the hands of a blogger watching a hockey team.
So cue up the Hip, toss on your favorite jersey and get ready for another night down at HSBC Arena. It’s gameday.
