Friday Linkage

We’re working on some other stuff, but for now, here’s what we’ve been reading and watching.

– If this turns out to be the last Olympics for women’s hockey, at least the Canadians went out with a bang.

– Ryan Miller and the U.S. men’s hockey team play at 3 p.m. today against Finland. If you’re in Buffalo and can’t watch the game and can’t get the online feed to work (the registration process through NBC’s Web site is terrible), you can listen to the game on WGR. They’re not allowed to stream it though, so you’re going to need an actual radio — antenna and all.

– Mirtle is back writing at his old home. You should probably re-bookmark it and keep up with his work at the Globe and Mail. We will.

– Can you ever really read enough about Ryan Miller? We can’t

– We try not to get political or newsy here, but the other night, Jon Stewart reminded us why “The Daily Show” is awesome.

– Shameless Plug: Ryan and Rich recorded the pilot episode of our podcast this week. Check it out and let us know what you think. It’s something we definitely want to keep doing.

— KSK on Tim Tebow’s impact in the NFL:

Immediate Impact: Good PR for whichever team drafts him.
Down the Road: A new GM for whichever team drafts him.

Sadly, that sounds a lot like the Bills’ philosophy.

Also on the subject of Tebow, Dan Shanoff, formerly of the brilliant Daily Quickie on ESPN.com, has been writing about the former Gators quarterback for a while now and it’s worth checking out as the draft approaches.

– The Buffalo News interviewed Darcy Regier when he was in Rochester to watch the Portland Pirates take on the Amerks. He gave them some great quotes and it’s probably as much insight we’ll get from him. It will be interesting to see how the defense shakes out, especially next year when Toni Lydman, Henrik Tallinder and Nathan Paetsch all could be on different teams.

And if you want more information on the future of the team, check out SabresProspects.com, hands down the best site on the Sabres farm system.

One additional thought on the Amerks: Maybe this is why the Florida Panthers are a mess right now. They are rebuilding, right?

– Our friend twoeightnine has unveiled his latest T-shirt design. Mine should be shipping in a few days (I ended going with the navy blue).

– And if you’re looking to spend even more money, today’s Amazon Deal of the Day is the complete “Rocky” series in Blu-ray for $37.99. Unfortunately, “Rocky V” is included.
