To be fair, I asked for it.
The Sabres we saw over the weekend clearly aren’t the team we wanted to see, but in a way they sort of are. Let’s go back to what I said on Friday morning:
I’ll be honest, I want to see them slip a bit. I mean, this team is dying for adversity. Miller has been so good, and the opponents have been so… boring.
I want to see tough games. I want to see drama. Most of all, I want to see how this team responds. November is going to be a tough month, but at the end of it we will know a whole lot more about this team than we do right now.
In a way, that’s exactly what we got. It wasn’t encouraging, but the Sabres took their first big test this season. It’s not good that they failed, but some adversity doesn’t hurt this early in the season.
The next “test” starts tonight, a pair of Western Conference opponents at home. Edmonton is a mediocre team on an East Coast road trip, but they are a team Buffalo doesn’t often see.
7pm from HSBC Arena. Let’s see if they can turn things around.
