The last time Buffalo played Calgary they were on the left coast. The Sabres were coming off a 10-2 rout of Edmonton, but just couldn’t cut it at the Saddledome. The Flames pulled away in the third with a tough effort, and Buffalo lost 5-2. This time the schedule looks the same, but Buffalo gets both teams at home this year.
There are only five points separating Edmonton and Calgary, but looking at the rosters it seems like light years. Phaneuf, Iginla, Bouwmeester, Kiprusoff. This is a team where Olli Jokinen is practically an afterthought. Calgary is a perennial playoff team with veteran leadership that can grind out tough wins. Edmonton simply can’t.
The question becomes, then, whether the Sabres can do the same thing. I can’t remember a time when Calgary came to Buffalo and laid an egg, and I don’t expect them to tonight. They haven’t played since Tuesday and at 11-4-1 are off to a great start, including a four-game winning streak they take into tonight.
It’s another big test from a Western Conference opponent. It’s a Friday night in Buffalo. It’s hockey weather out there. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

For such a physical team, the Flames got shown up in the gnar department tonight by our Sabres. The boys laid a pretty solid egg during the second, but our PK was huge again.
