Somebody’s watching James Starks and it’s not a googly eyed pile of money.
UB’s all-time leading rusher is among 45 collegiate running backs to named to the Doak Walker watch list, making him a candidate to be named the nation’s top running back.
Despite missing two-and-a-half games due to injury last season, Starks was still able to churn out a career-best 1,333 yards and score 17 total touchdowns. The senior from Niagara Falls also helped lead the Bulls to their first Mid-American Conference Championship and their first bowl game invitation in 50 years.
Semi-finalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 11 with the winner eventually being revealed on Dec. 10.
UB will hold its annual Football Kickoff Luncheon on Thursday as camp opens next week. Turner Gill’s squad will travel to UTEP for their season opener on Sept. 5 at 9 p.m.
