Long Summer

I have a story coming about this, but Fernando Martinez officially got the call from the Mets.

From a Bisons press release:

The New York Mets today announced that they have selected the contract of Buffalo Bisons OF Fernando Martinez.
Martinez, 20, has hit .291 (48-165) with 15 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 28RBI while playing in all 42 of Buffalo’s games this year. He leads the Bisons in all those offense categories as well as runs scored (22). He leaves the Herd on a team-high seven game hit streak, having averaged .366 (11-30) with three doubles, four home runs and eight RBI since Monday, May 18.
Martinez currently leads the International League with his 25 extra-base hits. He is also T2nd in the IL in doubles (15) and T6th in home runs (8).

This is great news for Martinez, who has been very hot this month. However, this is bad news for Bisons fans, as Martinez was just about the only player worth coming to the ballpark to see.

Tonight is a bit of an anomaly, with Oliver Perez getting the start for The Herd. After that, it’ll be tough to find some excitement with this team until they hit more, or Martinez gets sent back down.

More on this once I get to the press box.
