Last year the Sabres took on Boston in a meaningless regular season finale. I didn’t see the game because I went to Skydome to watch the Red Sox take on the Blue Jays. I saw it on tape delay, but it’s just not the same.
Today I will be doing something similar, but probably a few days removed. I might be at the Reds/Pirates game when the Sabres drop the puck for the final time, but I know I won’t be watching either way. It’s not hard to feel removed from everything, but I’ve done it before. The last time I was in Ohio for Easter the Sabres clinched the Presidents Trophy against Washington, and there I was on the couch watching an illegal feed to see it happen.
It mattered, and there was nothing like it. Today is completely different, even though I’m in the same spot as I type. We’ve gone through quite a few changes since then, and hopefully we will see a few more over the next few months.
There isn’t much riding on this game for either team, but I’m hoping for a good showing just for the sake of those who paid to see it. Back in September I looked at that game and said “that could be huge.” Yup, could have been.
4pm from HSBC Arena. Chris should have something to say about it later on. I’ll have something to say about it Tuesday.
