Coach Canada

By Chris

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff has been selected to coach Team Canada at the world championships in Switzerland.

From the Buffalo News:

The world championships, which will start April 24, usually are regarded as a backhanded compliment. It’s an honor for someone to represent his country, but inclusion means the person’s team failed to make the playoffs. That’s the case this year, but the compliment is bigger than usual.

The Vancouver Olympics are in February. If Ruff gets in the good graces of Hockey Canada, the organization could consider the Alberta native for its Olympic team. Detroit’s Mike Babcock is the runaway leader to coach Canada at the Olympics, but Ruff may be put on the short list for an assistant title with a solid world championships.

Ruff is a well-respected coach and this proves it. If the Sabres start seriously moving bodies out this off-season, this is selection is one example as to why Ruff shouldn’t be one of them.

Rosters are expected out today. We’ll let you know if any Sabres are on the list.

Just for the record—Lindy is the reason the Sabres are not in the playoffs the past 2 years. He needs to be held accountable for his team’s lapses and ‘lack of motivation’…especially when we are looking at less than 6 total points to become playoff eligible the past 2 years. Seriously, how many times was this team flat and unmotivated—it’s Lindy’s job to get his team ready.

He is quickly becoming the Jerry Sloan of hockey—nice guy—respectable coach—perpetual loser.
