Welcome to the brand new home of The Goose’s Roost.
Obviously things are a bit different over here, so this post is to let you know about the changes we’ve made to the site and help if you have any questions. We’ll keep this post at the top for a little while (yes, we can totally do that now) so if you have any questions feel free to add them at the bottom. Here’s what we’ve done:
From Blogger to WordPress
That’s right, no more Blogger for us. We’ve tried to keep a lot of the same page elements, but WordPress has been very good to us over the last few weeks. This means no more blogger accounts, which is something we’ll talk about later.
Where is Everything?
Well, it’s all here. All of our posts, tags, and comments have moved over from the old site, and you are free to continue to comment and search for them on this site.
New comments on the site will work the same way as on the old one, but with a minor twist. The first comment you put on the site will require moderation, but after that you can post whatever you want. It’s just a minor security measure, and please don’t think we will deny you. We just want try cutting down on spam. As long as you exist, you will get approved.
Those comments, however. don’t have your blogger ID on them anymore. In fact, if you don’t have a Gravitar set up you’ll have a little monster…thing next to your name. How do you get a gravitar? Go here and create an account. It’s really easy to use, and you can have the same account for multiple emails. I know a few people already have these set up, so there’s plenty of help out there if you have trouble setting it up.
Well, we have an “About” page that gives you a bit of background about us and the site, a “Contact” page with our shiny new emails and AIM account, and a “Featured” page that lets us show off some of our better work.
The “In The Roost” sidebar can also sort the posts based on who wrote them, as well as give you our contact information. That means if you don’t want to read what I have to say, you can read all of Jon’s posts and even email him to say how much I suck. Now that’s convenient!
Searches and RSS
Well, both of those are at the top of the page now, so that should be pretty simple.
What about the old site?
Well, it still exists, but if all goes to plan you should get forwarded to thegoosesroost.com when you go to the .blogspot.com address. If there are any problems with that, please let us know.
What do you think?
We’re very interested in what you have to say about the new site, so if you have questions or suggestions don’t be afraid to let us know. We’ve only been playing around here for two weeks or so, and we’d love to know about something that can improve the site. We’re very excited about the new site, and we hope you are, too.
